Migraines.org Icon Model Jennifer Ringley Wins Webby Award for Her Famous Website Broadcasting One of the Top 12 Most Influential Online Videos of All Time!
Pictured above taking a rest break to discuss the poses for the images that would later be used to become MAGNUM's homepage icon. "Jennifer is hysterical to work with, even during a 12 hour studio session," notes Michael John Coleman (right), wearing his professional photographer hat that day . "Jennifer is an excellent model to work with as we did a wide range of fine art to Migraine specific imagery..." he went on to note. Jennifer Ringley (left) has zero fear of the camera, which Coleman found refreshing. Both are Migraineurs, and MAGNUM is still working with images created from those photo sessions to raise awareness about Migraine disease.
WASHINGTON, DC-December 1st, 2007--As we were reading an e-mail from a doctor friend in London, we heard on the cable news that MAGNUM’s icon girl, Jennifer Ringley, who has been gracing the top of www.migraines.org’s website for about eight years just won a Webby! That is just as impressive as an Oscar or Academy Award to most Americans who have come to embrace the Internet as much as the TV or the movie theaters. So we are very excited here at MAGNUM that our friend and Internet pioneer, Jennifer Ringley, of Jennicam fame won a Webby Award for one of the “12 Most Influential Online Videos of All Time”. Not bad for a fellow Migraineur and MAGNUM supporter!
Everyone here at MAGNUM is very proud of Jenni. She is a force of nature. If you have ever spent time with her you would know that she is more than just than a very pretty tall blond with a whole bunch of video cameras. But she challenged the medium in 1996 and broadcasted her life, Migraines and all. Some of you may remember her when she caused a pretty big stir by putting her life, every moment, for all to see! She became so famous that she was all over CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and the print media. She was on The David Letterman Show, The Today Show, and World News Tonight With Peter Jennings.
Some say putting her life online inspired two major movies of the 1990's, 'Ed TV" and "The Truman Show". She lived on the web from 1996 to 2003 as a conceptual artist were she painted on the canvas of the global tapestry we call the Internet. These days we understand this remarkably intelligent woman of many talents is now living a much quieter life as a computer programmer in Sacramento, California.
According to The Webby Awards official website, “A picture may be worth a thousand words, but for many Webby winners the story is often told with so many more. And includes pictures, videos and perhaps a press release or two. View photos of past events, read up on all the Webby happenings and see video excerpts of worldwide Webby coverage in our Press section.”
The Webby Awards 12 Most Influential Online Videos of All Time
This article is just to focus on the life of a fellow Migraineur, Jennifer Ringley, who was kind enough to donate much of her time to model for MAGNUM’s Executive Director and fine art photographer Michael John Coleman. The two collaborated to create a body of work to illustrate the impact of Migraine disease though Michael John's trademark Impressionistic images. Some of that artwork has been used to create of icon animation, now a well known symbol of the Migraine Awareness Group. In addition, the artwork is still being edited and Michael John will be created more artwork out of that body of work the two have created for years to come. Allowing MAGNUM to try to reach out to more Migraineurs, and to continue to use the art to educate the public about the burden of Migraine disease.
The Webby Awards website describes their awards and why they compiled this twelve year overview they stated the following:
“2006 will surely go down as the year when Internet video broke to the worldwide masses, but even before this historical benchmark, online video was an important part of many user's Internet experiences. To celebrate its 12th year, The Webby Awards has put together a list of some of the most important, influential and beloved online videos of all-time. It wasn't easy to narrow down over a decade of online video to just twelve, but each of the videos listed below represents an important starting point for the tactics and trends currently flourishing online.”
Jennicam (1996)
Jennifer Ringley redefined privacy and entertainment for the Internet era by posting a few Webcams around her college dorm room and inviting the world to view and debate the most mundane moments of her daily life.

Senator George Allen's political gaffe became a media sensation and is widely credited with helping the Democrats take control of the U.S. Congress in 2006. This hit MAGNUM and all Migraineurs a bit hard as the Senator was a real supporter of Migraine and pain issues. So it goes to show you all how powerful this medium is!
